About ACS in the City Career Forums

ACS in the City is a unique diversity talent attraction platform where leading private and public sector organisations connect with and attract high-achieving and promising black students from universities across the United Kingdom. Each ACS in the City career day event brings together like-minded ACS student members (as well as non-members) and employers in a conducive environment to connect.

ACS Banking Forum

The ACS Banking Forum is an industry insight and networking event for top-performing black students interested in starting their professional careers with leading global banks. This event is a unique platform to: learn of the opportunities with the participating banks; gain a richer insight into the banking/financial services industry and build useful professional skills and contacts for the industry.

Participating banks include: Barclays, Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Citi, Deutsche Bank, Goldman Sachs, J.P. Morgan and Morgan Stanley.

This event is for you if you are:

  • 1. A first or second year black student at any UK university;
  • 2. Passionate about a career in banking/financial services industry;
  • 3. Keen to meet and learn from previous interns or recent graduates in various positions;
  • 4. Interested in networking and building professional contacts with recruiters, senior bankers and other experienced professionals from partner banks.

ACS Law Forum

The ACS Law Forum is an industry insight and networking event for top-performing black students interested in starting their professional careers with some of the largest global commercial/corporate law firms. At this event, you will get unrivalled face-to-face access to the human resources managers (HR), managing partners, associates and trainee solicitors at the participating law firms. The event is a unique opportunity to learn of the type of work they do, available career opportunities and how to make a successful application, for example, for vacation schemes and training contract positions.

There will also be interactive skills sessions with HR managers which would give you a first-hand insight into what it takes to work in a global commercial/corporate law firm.

ACS Public Sector

Technology Forum

Google Top Black Talent (GTBT) is a talent attraction scheme launched in 2010 for black African and Caribbean students studying at UK universities. This unique scheme is a combination of a day’s careers insight event at Google’s London office, plus an eight weeks mentoring programme for participating students. GTBT is open to all African and Caribbean Society (ACS) members at UK universities.

How do you decide who to accept?

First, the ACS in the City is open to all black university students or graduates from any UK university.

You will be assessed based on the information given on your application form, CV and during the telephone interview. In our selection process, we consider the following: academic record, extracurricular activities, vocational experience (if any), and generally, a genuine interest in pursuing a career in the chosen sector.

Who will I meet at ACS in the City Forum events?

One of the unique features of the ACS in the City events is that it showcases the diversity within the workforce of our partner employers. Typically, you would get to meet:

    Other black students from universities across the UK. These students are often members of their local African Caribbean Society

    Senior employees, executives and HR teams from participating employers

    Recent or current interns and those on various graduate programmes

Yes

Do I have to pay?

No. ACS in the City Forum events are completely free of charge to attend

Will my travel costs be reimbursed?

Yes. ACS in the City events include travel reimbursement for those travelling from outside London. Where available, please retain your receipts and supply them within the stipulated time frame for reimbursement.
